National Cycle Network – Walking and Cycling Aberdeenshire

The National Cycle Network offers over 12,000 miles of walking and cycle routes on traffic-free paths, quiet lanes and traffic-calmed roads across the UK.

The Station Hotel Maud lies on Route number 1 which can take you from Aberdeen to John O’Groats on the Coast to Castles route or the North Sea Cycle route

Castles Aberdeenshire

There are many spectacular castles and gardens in close proximity to the Station Hotel Maud, such as Drum Castle, Delgatie Castle, Crathes Castle, Craigievar Castle, Castle Fraser and Fyvie Castle. The most famous of all is Balmoral Castle where the Royal family are in residence for part of the year.

These castles and National Trust properties are rich in history and legend, with many reputed to be haunted. Many offer excellent visitor centres, guided ranger walks and other outdoor activities and are well worth a visit.

Whisky Trail Scotland

The only Malt Whisky Trail in the world can be found close to the Station Hotel, Maud.  You will see countless distilleries nestling in the hillsides and picturesque villages, where you can experience the malt whisky making process first hand.  Sample a wee dram at the end of your tour and perhaps purchase a bottle of your favourite malt to remind you of the hills and glens.

Golf Aberdeen

Golf Scotland is known worldwide for its superb golf courses and the north-east has an abundance of inland and coastal courses on which to test your skills.  Courses around the Station Hotel Maud include Royal Duff, Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen, Peterhead, Murcar and Newmachar to name but a few.  The Donald Trump International Golf Links development is only a short drive away.

If you would prefer just to practice your swing and improve your technique, there is a municipal Driving Range at Aberdeen beach.

Shooting Aberdeenshire

Whether you are an experienced shot or a complete beginner, you are sure to enjoy this country pursuit in the beautiful Buchan countryside.  Be guided by professional instructors in the art of clay pigeon shooting, deer stalking, goose shooting or other game bird shooting.

At the Station Hotel Maud we are happy to recommend reputable clay pigeon shooting venues and goose guides.
